Step 00.9 — Order the consumables with the longest lead time first

Step 9 of 32 pre-kit · Chapter 00 — Before you start

(no image — see text)

Parts: none.

Do:

  1. Order everything below now. Nothing here waits for the kit.
  2. Nothing here is a bearing, a rail or an insert tip. Those are kit parts.

check Check

Grease and IPA are on the bench before you touch a rail; rail prep cannot start without them.

What you're looking at

No parts, the consumables order. Two of these gate work rather than improve it: the rails cannot be prepared without the synthetic grease and the IPA.

Item Note
Super Lube 21030 synthetic grease 3 oz / 85 g tube, far more than seven carriages need; LDO publishes no quantity
IPA ≥ 90% enough to fill a rail's own shipping bag seven times over — the bag is the soak tray
Loctite 243 blue threadlocker Ch 02, Ch 04, Ch 05
Nitrile gloves, lint-free cloth, masking tape, permanent marker —
(nothing to buy for Gate B) its insert row uses seven M3×H5 from the KADRICK kit already on the bench — shank must caliper ~4 mm (verify on bench) — set with the X-Tronic iron's stock conical tip; its bore row is a caliper reading. The 625-2RS bearing and the MGN12 rail are kit parts and their rows wait for kit day

Caution

Rev D+ / LDO: LDO's rail guide recommends an NLGI 0 or 1 grease and in the same sentence names Super Lube 21030 as a community favourite. Super Lube's data lists 21030 as NLGI 2, one grade stiffer. The Voron community uses it and it works, so a tube marked NLGI 2 is not a wrong order. src · src
