Printable checklists

Generated by scripts/build_printables.py — do not hand-edit. Print with .print-images off (default) for a text-only sheet.

One page per checkpoint, assembly chapters first (Ch 00 → Ch 14, including Ch 00a and Ch 06b), then the print batches in print order (B00 → B10). Gate A and Gate B are the two halves of the B00 sheet — the day-1 and kit-day gates for the whole build.

Checkpoint 00 — Before you start

  • Both cartons inventoried against your batch's BOM page; Check1 ticked on every line; shortages written down and reported to Fabreeko.
  • Deck panel calipered on kit day; if it measures 4 mm, deck_support_4mm_x8 reprinted (8 g, 30 min). B01-P2 printed the 3 mm set months earlier, on the BOM's word.
  • Nitehawk board confirmed as a V2: PH2.0 on PROBE/TH0/CT/Endstop, XH on MOTOR, secondary USB port present, fan-adapter header keyed. The stm32g0b1xx USB-serial check is written into the Ch 12 notes.
  • XY endstop cable labels read XES / YES, or the re-pin guide is bookmarked.
  • Ten LDO-supplied printed parts binned and labelled "DO NOT PRINT". The V2 usb_adapter_mount_partial_cover.stl found in bin 08-CW2 (B07-P1); the spare V1 cover in spare-alt.
  • Every fastener bag emptied into its labelled compartment in trays A–C, flattened and kept in the kit box; trays stacked.
  • Every "Buy" row in Step 00.8 ordered or consciously skipped. Grease and IPA on the bench.
  • Flat reference verified in five positions; worst feeler gap ≤ 0.1 mm and recorded; working area masked off and protected.
  • Seven practice inserts set (one per coupon pocket): flush to ≤ 0.2 mm proud, square, boss not bulged > 0.2 mm. Working iron temperature written on the iron.
  • All 7 rails: end stops taped 15 mm from each end, soaked 10 min in IPA ≥ 90% in their own bags, dried an hour or more, flip-and-packed until grease oozed at both end caps, rail surfaces wiped clean, labelled X / Y1 / Y2 / Z0–Z3, carriage taped, bagged with the end stops still on.
  • Gate B's bore and insert rows passed months ago (Step B00.7), so B01–B06 are long since printed; its rail row is done out of carton 1 on kit day, then both guide sizes fitted rail-plus-extrusion with light finger pressure (Step 00.20). The 625-2RS press row signs off from the same carton.
  • 33 bins labelled from the bin-labels sheet (00-jigs … spare-alt, print/README.md § Bins), each in the bag or box its label names, and the batch → bin map posted on the wall.
  • Measurement log (Step 00.30) holds the flat-reference gap, the deck panel thickness and the inventory result.
  • Fabreeko Discord, Voron Discord and #ldo_motors joined; both gating questions posted.

Checkpoint 00a — Mains safety: read before Chapter 09

  • Decided and written down who lands the mains conductors in Ch 10 Section 1, and whether that is a certified person.
  • The "who is in the room" rule is written and posted: adult-only for Ch 10 Steps 10.1–10.16 and 10.17–10.23, Ch 12 Step 12.11 through Checkpoint 12, Ch 11 Step 11.67 and Ch 13 Step 13.3; on the unplugged sweeps 10.74–10.78 she only records the readings while the adult holds the probes.
  • Multimeter on the bench with a printed CAT rating (CAT III 600 V or better), matching leads, continuity, Ω, DC V and AC V all found.
  • Meter proved live–dead–live once, probes shorted to a beep, both leads continuous, battery good.
  • Printer's outlet is RCD/GFCI protected, trips on its TEST button, and its breaker is identified and labelled.
  • Both of you have walked to the labelled breaker once and know which switch is the printer's.
  • The five PE branches can be named from memory, and the M4×6 bed PE screw was confirmed present at Ch 03 Step 03.6.
  • The SSR "earth the mounting rail" gap is understood and, if local rules require an earthed rail, it has been raised with whoever signs off the mains work.
  • VE0508 ferrules located in the kit; the pull-and-look test at Ch 10 Step 10.8 is understood.
  • Both power-on rituals read end to end; the two steps where the machine may be live with the bay open (10.23, 12.11) are known, and the hand-on-the-switch ritual is understood to apply at 12.11 as well as 13.3.
  • The five failure responses are agreed out loud; extinguisher in reach; nobody re-energises a tripped circuit without a cause.

Checkpoint 01 — Frame

  • Reference surface re-checked with straightedge + feelers in five positions; worst gap no larger than the Step 00.10 figure
  • 10 A, 4 B extrusions used; C ×2, D ×1, E ×1 bagged for Ch 05
  • All extrusion end faces deburred and flat against the square
  • 16 frame blind joints engaged and fully tightened, evenly
  • Bottom square diagonals equal; top square diagonals equal and matching the bottom
  • All four vertical faces: diagonals equal, corners 90°
  • Frame sits on all four corners with no rock
  • Every vertical's access holes face outward and take the straight 3 mm key face-on
  • Two bed extrusions running front-to-back on the front and rear rails, corner brackets, M5 precision spacers (not shims), 90° to the rails; FRONT tape on one of the two faces their ends land on
  • Bed extrusions 65 mm each side of the centreline, 130 mm clear gap, checked at both ends; all four M5×10 and four M5×16 bracket bolts tight
  • Titanium backers still bagged and labelled for Ch 05
  • Frame log table filled in

Checkpoint 02 — Z drives, Z idlers, Z rails, deck panel

  • All four Z rails run their full travel with no notch, tight spot or grinding; every carriage is taped or stoppered.
  • Rail surfaces are clean and dry and grease is inside the carriages only — carried over from Ch 00 Steps 00.18–00.21 and re-confirmed at Step 02.05.
  • All four rails are centred on their extrusions, each facing the rail on its own side of the machine (front-left ↔ rear-left, front-right ↔ rear-right), and share the same 3 mm bottom gap and the same nine-hole pattern (holes 2–18, no end holes).
  • Deck panel notch is at the back; panel sits inside the frame opening under the bed extrusions, held up by eight clip ledges, no rock; four M5 T-nuts aligned under the four deck holes and left unbolted for Ch 09 Step 09.5.
  • _a parts at Z0 and Z2, _b at Z1 and Z3 (or the reverse if the Step 02.29 dry-fit said so — written in the build log), and each idler the same hand as the drive below it.
  • Measured deck-panel thickness is written down and the fitted deck supports (8 off) match it.
  • Every 20T drive pulley sits 33 mm along its shaft; every 16T motor pulley sits 10.7 mm off the motor face.
  • All 24 M4×4 set screws are tight, threadlocked, and at least one per pulley lands on the shaft flat.
  • Four M5 precision spacers per drive (16 total) — spacers, not shims.
  • Each Z drive shaft turns freely by hand through the belt, with no belt skip and no bearing rumble.
  • All four tensioner cams are closed and no drive shifted when its cam closed (p.46 check).
  • Four rubber feet fitted; the printer stands on all four without rocking on the reference surface.
  • Each Z idler faces the same way as the pulley in the drive below it and is pressed hard into its corner.
  • Four motor cables labelled Z0 / Z1 / Z2 / Z3 by physical corner.

Checkpoint 03 — Build plate

  • Protective film removed; top face clean, magnet applied with no bubbles or wrinkles.
  • All four bolt holes trimmed clear through the magnet; a 2.5 mm hex key reaches each bolt head.
  • Heater pad flat and centred, pad screws present and untouched — inspected, not re-applied.
  • Thermal fuse flat against the plate, screw tight, in-line with a heater lead — inspected, not re-fitted.
  • M4×6 BHCS present on the plate as the PE point (washer: verify on bench); nothing wired to it.
  • Four M3 roll-in T-nuts in the bed extrusion top slots; four M4 thumb nuts standing as spacers.
  • Four M3×20 SHCS fitted (not M3×16); one tightened, three deliberately loose.
  • Front edge of the plate 38 mm behind the front edge of the frame, both corners.
  • Equal gap under all four corners; no rock; plate clear of every vertical extrusion and Z rail.
  • Straightedge check done before the magnet went on — no gap you could slide paper under.
  • Three bed leads loose above the deck with slack, none through it, unterminated, nothing pinched or tied.
  • Flex plate test-fitted, removed, and the bed covered for the rest of the build.

Checkpoint 04 — A/B drive units and front idlers

  • Two drive units and two front idlers built, each labelled with its position on the machine.
  • Every F695 pair is flange-out — plain faces touching — with one brass M5 precision spacer above and below each pair.
  • Drive far posts: 4 bearings + 4 spacers, with two spacers meeting mid-stack. Drive near posts and both idlers: 2 bearings + 2 spacers.
  • All six bearing groups spin free with the frames closed and bolted.
  • Both idlers: M5×40 axle clamped firm into the arm's nut, arm still sliding in the frame's slots; M3×40 tensioner snug into the arm's insert.
  • a_drive_frame_upper has its two heat-set inserts; b_drive_frame_upper has none.
  • Both motor pulleys are the 6 mm-wide 20T (5mm ID 6mm W), not one of the four 9 mm Z-drive pulleys.
  • A pulley: hub down, 16.5 mm. B pulley: hub up, 6.5 mm. The two are visibly different.
  • Both pulleys are threadlocked and will not slip under hand pressure.
  • The belt's free end lies flat on each pulley, its near pair and the far-post pair in the same plane: upper on A, lower on B. No tilt, no flange contact. The other far-post pair sits 10 mm off; it carries the other belt.
  • Both motor cable exits point inboard; held in their build positions, they face each other.
  • Every M5×30 BHCS is snug only — none was torqued down into the plastic thread.
  • Zero bearings, spacers or fasteners left over.

Checkpoint 05 — Gantry: X and Y axes, XY joints, X carriage, titanium backers

  • E extrusion joined to both drive units with 8× M5×10 BHCS; drives parallel, no twist
  • Both MGN9 rails centred and tightened on holes 2, 4 … 18, both end holes open, overhang equal at both ends
  • MGN12 rail centred and tightened on holes 2, 4 … 14, both end holes open, overhang equal at both ends
  • Every carriage retained by a stopper or tape; none dropped
  • At each of the four C-extrusion ends: 2× M5 in the top (backer) slot, 1× M5 + 1× M3 in the rail slot beyond the rail end
  • Titanium backers on the face opposite the rail — top of both Y extrusions, rear of the X extrusion — flat, all screws seated, none cammed out
  • Both front idlers and both rear drive joints flush with the extrusion ends, each with a blue upper Z-belt clip under its two M5×16, clip notch pointing away from the idler or drive assembly
  • Both XY joints: 3 M5 nuts, 4 M5×40 SHCS, 2 F695 flange-out between 2 precision spacers, 1 free-spinning 20T idler; the three joint bolts firm, the idler bolt snug
  • Cable bridge fitted to the right XY joint with M5×16 BHCS; left joint on M5×10
  • M5×30 BHCS with black M5 washers underneath, both lightly tightened
  • XY joints bolted to the Y carriages: 4 bolts one side, 2 the other; all six M3×16 fitted; 2× M3×30 SHCS bagged with the endstop pod (p.164) for the right joint's two empty holes
  • X axis runs the full Y travel with no tight spot
  • A/B belts still unopened; nothing squared, nothing torqued down
  • Gantry is upside down (motors up, rails up) with the right joint (bridge, endstop channel) on the A-drive side; it is turned back at Ch 06 Step 06.11

Checkpoint 06 — Z axis (mechanical)

  • Four z_joint_upper blocks fitted, each with its M5 nut seated, cutouts facing outward
  • Zero 6×3 magnets used; zero z_joint_upper_hall_effect parts printed or fitted
  • Four z_joint_lower on the Z carriages, four M3×20 SHCS each, all four bolted flat
  • Four M5×40 SHCS in, all still light — they are torqued hot in Ch 14, not now and not in Part B
  • Four Z belts routed drive → idler → clamp, teeth engaged on every pulley, none twisted
  • Both belt ends clamped at every corner: the first under the lower clip and bearing block, the second under the upper clip's two M5×16; tails folded and zip-tied
  • Four belts pluck to roughly the same note; nothing rubs anywhere in ±30 mm of Z travel
  • The six XY-joint-to-X-beam bolts (Steps 05.38–05.39) fully tightened with the gantry held back against both A/B drives (p.122); Z belt-clamp bolts and rail screws untouched
  • Gantry holds its own height on the belts; zip ties and mid-rail stoppers removed
  • Z-chain parts bagged and labelled for Ch 10

Checkpoint 06b — Gantry squaring

  • SET_IDLE_TIMEOUT TIMEOUT=99999 set first (Step 06b.1), machine homed and QGL'd (06b.2) before any belt was plucked or any bolt touched
  • Four Z belts measured at 140 Hz over a 150 mm span (Step 06b.3), all four within ±5 Hz — set finally at Ch 14 Step 14.5 (cold, same session as 14.4)
  • Only stepper_x and stepper_y were disabled; Z motors held the gantry throughout
  • A/B belts were fully slack before any adjustment was made
  • At every XY joint only the three joint-to-beam bolts (Steps 05.38–05.39) were loosened; at the A/B drives and front idlers both Z belt-clamp pairs were eased only enough to slide, no Z belt end slipped, and all were retightened at 06b.12
  • Both A/B joints checked for rotation against the good/bad reference images
  • At all four Z joints, the M5×40 starts by hand with the joint raised — no coaxing
  • Four-point gantry-to-frame gap recorded: same-side front/rear within 0.5 mm, left/right within 1 mm
  • Machinist square shows no light at both front corners, gantry forward and gantry back
  • A/B belts re-tensioned to a provisional 110 Hz over a 150 mm span, matched to each other — final value is Ch 14 Step 14.4
  • Four Z joint M5×40 bolts still light — they are tightened hot in Ch 14, not here
  • RESTART run at Step 06b.16; idle timeout back to default; next page is Ch 13 Step 13.35

Checkpoint 07 — A/B belts and tensioning

  • Both belts routed to match p.126 (A) and p.127 (B); each belt stays in one plane, neither crosses the other.
  • No half-twist anywhere; belt teeth face away from the extrusion at the X carriage; each belt's toothed face stays on the same side all the way round.
  • Teeth meshed on both toothed motor pulleys — each pulley indexes when the belt is nudged, no slip — and on the two XY-joint toothed idlers (A at the right joint, B at the left); smooth back on every plain stack.
  • Belt not riding on any printed part at any of the fourteen contacts at six locations, checked at both ends of X travel and both ends of Y travel (p.142).
  • Equal length of belt protruding from the X carriage on both belts, after moving the gantry and returning (p.141).
  • Carriage bolts and all four M3×8 belt clamps fully tightened; nothing slips under a hard pull.
  • Both belts read within a few Hz of each other at ~110 Hz over a 150 mm span, re-checked after moving the gantry — provisional; Ch 14 Step 14.4 sets the final value.
  • Gantry moves through the full XY envelope by hand with even resistance, no ticking, no notchiness.
  • Probe insulated (front + sides only), fitted, lead uncut with its factory connector, tip 6 mm below the plastic, cable in its channel.
  • No hall-effect magnet fitted (p.145 skipped).
  • Turn the A motor pulley by hand: the carriage moves diagonally. Turn both pulleys the same way: it moves in a straight line. That is CoreXY.

Checkpoint 08 — bench test before anything is powered

  • Heater resistance. Across the two HE0 ferrules: a low, stable, non-zero reading. A 60 W 24 V Revo HF cartridge is roughly 9.6 Ω (24²/60); anything near 0 Ω is a short and anything open is a broken lead. (verify against the value E3D prints on your cartridge)
  • Heater isolation. No continuity between either heater lead and the heatsink, the nozzle, the frame, or the toolboard GND pad.
  • Thermistor at room temperature. Across the TH0 pigtail: about 100 kΩ at 25 °C for the Semitec 104NT-4-R025H42G. Warm the HeaterCore with your fingers and watch the resistance fall — an NTC that rises is the wrong part or a bad connection.
  • Probe. Continuity from each PROBE pin to the matching probe wire; no continuity between 24V and GND.
  • LED chain. No short between 5 V and GND at the chain connector; continuity along the chain in the order logo → right → left.
  • Fan orientation, checked visually. The hotend fan's moulded arrow points into the heatsink and its wires exit at the top. The 5015 discharges down into the ducts. Both impellers spin freely with a finger flick and no rub. Powered spin-up is confirmed in Ch 13 Verify Fans.
  • Fan-voltage jumpers. V_HEF and V_PCF both on 24 V, nothing cut, nothing bridged to 5 V.
  • Fan ports. Axial on P2, blower on P4, LEDs on P3. If the wrong fan spins in Ch 13, fix it in the config, not by re-crimping — see Common mistakes.
  • Board-to-board header fully seated, SB front snapped on with no gap at the parting line.
  • Mechanical. Extruder shaft turns freely by hand; gear mesh has a faint play; tension arm swings; latch closes; filament runs from the CW2 inlet through the PTFE to the nozzle with no catch.
  • Probe height still ~6 mm below the plastic and the insulation intact, front and sides only — set in Ch 07 Steps 07.34–07.37, re-checked at Step 08.55.
  • Cable discipline. Run X to both extremes by hand — the parked umbilical never goes taut, nothing rubs a belt, nothing touches the nozzle. The secondary USB port is still reachable. (Chain slack and the chain ties are Ch 10 Steps 10.59 and 10.66.)
  • The toolboard-to-motor ground wire (Steps 08.43 and 08.53) is fitted per LDO's ESD Hardening section, or — if the kit is missing the grounding cables — logged as an unanswered #ldo_motors question. Do not let Ch 10 close the bay with this unresolved.

Checkpoint 09 — Electronics bay

  • Two DIN rails run left-to-right, each bolted with one M5×10 BHCS into each bed extrusion, all four plastic end caps fitted.
  • DC loop VHB'd at 09.36 as one closed loop, middle run 1.5 mm or more off the Leviathan and the PSU; AC conduit VHB'd against the WAGO bus, behind the SSR and over the round deck hole; notch clear; every lid off and bagged. LDO layout: five PVC ducts, the opening clear.
  • Meanwell LRS-200-24 selector set to 115 V, on the rear rail via its two printed brackets, front-right corner 2 mm or more clear of the right T's rear fillet and left end 3 mm or more from the SSR run's open end — and no support bracket fitted.
  • Omron SSR on its metal bracket, latched to the rear rail left of the PSU, LOAD (1/2) and INPUT (3+/4−) identified and reachable.
  • Every Leviathan voltage-selection jumper removed and bagged.
  • Leviathan on the front rail with the Pi 4B mounted on it, heatsink fitted, SD card in, and the 3/4 HAT power adapter seated.
  • USB adapter on the front rail with the partial cover and the supplied grounding cable attached to its exposed point; frame end left loose for Ch 10.
  • IEC inlet module (one part, not two) in power_inlet_IECGS_1mm, panel bolted to the rear extrusion hard against the rear-left Z-motor mount; three WAGO 221-415 clamps in the mains WAGO mount to its right.
  • Nozzle probe assembled — collar home, PCB on two M2×10, shaft free — and mounted on M3×25 SHCS above the deck on the right bed extrusion's inner slot, pin 1.5 mm behind the plate's straight rear edge; its lead not yet through the deck. If the 5 mm shaft is out (un-notched, 09.29), it is bagged and labelled probe shaft — refit before 13.24.
  • XY endstop PCB on the pod, pod on the gantry, full X and Y travel with no fouling.
  • Bed WAGO breakout built and mounted above the deck on the left bed extrusion, under the plate's rear half; the plate's three leads reach it with slack and the plate still lifts off from above.
  • Nothing wired. Nothing plugged in. Duct lids off, skirts and bottom panel off. Multimeter on the bench.

Checkpoint 10 — Wiring and Checkpoint #1

  • PSU voltage selector matches your mains — verified twice (10.2, 10.22)
  • LDO's Checkpoint #1 passed in full: every node of each colour traced end to end — C14 pin to PSU screw, SSR, bed and frame — L/N/PE mutually isolated at the WAGOs and at the PSU screws, switch switches, SSR open, then one hand-on-the-switch power-on and off again (10.17–10.23)
  • Bed heater reads tens of ohms L→N and OL to the plate (10.13)
  • SSR: bed on LOAD 1, mains L on LOAD 2, red on INPUT 3, black on INPUT 4; load and control sides isolated (10.14, 10.27, 10.78)
  • Protective earth reaches the frame, the build plate and the extruder motor body from the C14 earth pin — the frame lug fitted at 10.16, probed on bare metal, never anodising (10.16, 10.58, 10.67, 10.77)
  • No 24 V node and no 5 V node reads 0 Ω; +24 V → PE reads about the same as +V → −V, never 0 Ω, and −V → PE reads a few Ω through the ESD bond; exactly two jumpers on the Leviathan, Fan2 and Fan3, both at 24 V (10.28, 10.74, 10.75)
  • Bed thermistor reads within ±15 % of the room-temperature table (10.44, 10.76)
  • Six steppers on their mapped ports, tagged; STEPPER-4 and Z-PROBE empty (10.40–10.43, 10.46)
  • All three Rev D+ toolhead deviations verified: PH2.0 sensor connectors, keyed 2×5 (10-pin) fan header seated with no gap, V2 partial cover with the grounding cable fitted (10.55–10.58)
  • Every cable in every chain can be slid by hand; all six chain ends zip-tied; gantry moves through full X, Y and Z travel with no snag (10.65, 10.66)
  • Strip fin between PSU 3 FG and 4 −V, AC lids on; DC lids off, skirts off, bottom panel off (10.71, 10.80); touchscreen module built (Ch 11 Steps 11.5–11.6) with its DSI ribbon latched at both ends, once, and taped to the front extrusion for Ch 11 Step 11.7 (10.50)
  • Bay walked against LDO's finished photo with every difference explained (10.72); cord out of the room, next plug-in is Ch 12 Step 12.11 — with the bay still open

Checkpoint 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration

Part A — before Ch 13

  • Checkpoint #1 passed and Ch 12 Part 2 (12.11–12.37, Checkpoint 12) done before any of this started; deck panel calipered and the Ch 02 deck supports match it.
  • All twelve skirt segments checked for rock on the flat reference; the ring is closed with flush, tight joints all round, and no mini12864 parts exist anywhere on the machine.
  • BTT TFT4.3 module in the front-centre position; FFC seated at both ends in the correct orientation (contacts up at the screen, forward at the Pi) with a service loop.
  • Two 60×20 bay fans, both in the right-hand fan support, both blowing the same way, joined by the 3×2 splicer PCB on its printed spacer, landing on FAN2/PF7; the left support's grills on the two retainers.
  • Bottom panel bonded on six VHB pads to two rear hinges and four clips, opened and closed once after the VHB cured; four Z belt covers on, correct variant per corner, belts clear through full Z travel.
  • Nevermore built and installed: 6 heat-sets, both 5015 fans modified and bolted, bridge PCB meter-checked for shorts, magnets polarity-matched, plenum on the bed extrusions, filter fan on FAN3/PF9 with the 24 V jumper confirmed, cartridge closed with its fill state written on the lid.
  • Spool holder and bowden retainer fitted; a full spool spins freely with no kink in the PTFE.
  • Clicky-Clack door frame square, acrylic retained, hinges and handle assembled, all magnet pairs attracting, hinge side decided (left unless you chose otherwise at 11.44); 3 mm foam on the front face of the front opening.

Part B — after Ch 13

  • Ch 12 and Ch 13 complete, including the Ch 06b gantry-squaring pass, before any panel went on.
  • Clips test-fitted for thickness before all 31 were committed: 4 mm on back + top with M3×8, 6 mm on both sides with M3×12, two screws in every corner clip; none left over, none short. Foam tape correct per panel: 1 mm back and top, 3 mm both sides.
  • Gantry run through full XY travel with the side panels on — no contact. Exhaust cover and grill sealing the back panel, cover tabs bolted to the top rear extrusion, the PTFE through the cover's coupler; no Voron filter housing fitted. Both handlebars on their printed spacers.
  • No stock door parts fitted; the Clicky-Clack latches with a click and draws the door onto the 3 mm foam; no daylight at any seam; thread locker on the panel-clip hammerhead nuts.

Checkpoint 12 — Software: Pi OS image, Klipper/Moonraker/Mainsail, firmware, printer.cfg

  • MainsailOS boots, is reachable at your hostname, and every component in the Update Manager is up to date.
  • The Klipper version string from Step 12.7 is written down, and both MCUs were flashed from that same working copy.
  • ls /dev/serial/by-id/ shows exactly two Klipper devices: one stm32g0b1xx (Nitehawk-SB V2) and one stm32f446xx or stm32h743xx (Leviathan). No katapult entries.
  • printer.cfg is the -sbv2 file — grep -c 'nhk:PB8' printer.cfg returns 1 and grep -c gpio printer.cfg returns 0 (the V1 file returns 20).
  • config.leviathan and config.nitehawk are in ~/printer_data/config/, and ~/printer_data/config is a git repo with the Ch 12 baseline committed.
  • Line 1 is [include mainsail.cfg], and Mainsail shows no missing-configuration panel.
  • All six 350 mm sites are uncommented: [stepper_x], [stepper_y], [stepper_z], [quad_gantry_level], [resonance_tester], [gcode_macro G32].
  • [bed_mesh] exists and carries zero_reference_position: 175, 175.
  • [input_shaper] and [exclude_object] exist; exactly one live [probe] section.
  • [fan_generic nevermore] on PF9; [output_pin caselight] has one live value:.
  • safe_z_home still reads -10,-10 with the Ch 13 TODO next to it.
  • STATUS is clean after RESTART, both MCUs connected, three sensors reading room temperature.
  • KlipperScreen is running and the DSI panel shows the right way up.
  • Nothing has been homed, heated or jogged.
  • The machine is still live with the bay open: nobody reaches into the bay until Step 11.67 has shut it down, unplugged it and read 0 V.

Checkpoint 13 — Initial startup

  • Checkpoint #1 (Ch 10) was passed before this chapter began, with a multimeter, unplugged.
  • STATUS returns Klipper state: Ready, and both MCUs are present — stm32f446xx (or stm32h743xx on a V1.3 board) and stm32g0b1xx.
  • grep -c gpio ~/printer_data/config/printer.cfg returns 0 — the -sbv2 config.
  • M112 tested once (Step 13.22) and typed-and-unsent, alone on the line, before every first move; everyone in the room knows it is the stop and RESTART is not.
  • Extruder, bed and chamber (three sensors) all report room temperature at rest and none of them drifts upward untouched.
  • Both heaters heat and cool on command; the SSR LED tracks the bed, the toolboard HE0 LED tracks the hotend.
  • All four fan outputs verified and on the right fan: hotend (SB bottom), part cooling (SB top), bay PCB fan pair, Nevermore filter fan; plus the chamber LEDs and all three Stealthburner LEDs.
  • All seven motors pass STEPPER_BUZZ — correct motor, clean motion; correct direction for the four Z motors (A/B at 13.22–13.23, extruder at 13.40).
  • QUERY_ENDSTOPS reads stepper_x:open stepper_y:open stepper_z:open at rest and each endstop triggers alone; the nozzle probe shaft springs back freely.
  • QUERY_PROBE toggles open / TRIGGERED with metal, and the probe's fibreglass tape is front-and-sides only.
  • G28 completes on all three axes; 0,0 lands within 5 mm of the front-left corner of the plate with no skipping.
  • [safe_z_home] home_xy_position holds your measured Z-endstop coordinate, not -10,-10.
  • Bed and hotend PID tuned and SAVE_CONFIG-ed; PROBE_ACCURACY hot shows σ < 0.003 mm with no trend, and you wrote down the soak time.
  • Ch 06b cold gantry squaring done (Checkpoint 06b ticked), A/B belts back at its provisional tension, and QGL re-run and converged afterwards. Final tension is Ch 14 Steps 14.4–14.6, not here.
  • Z_ENDSTOP_CALIBRATE done hot at the paper-drag height (no extra step down) and saved; bed mesh taken hot after QGL and saved.
  • Filament loaded, extruder direction confirmed, rotation_distance measured here (Step 13.40) and written into [extruder].
  • PrusaSlicer has a Voron 2.4 350 printer preset (350×350, Klipper flavour, limits for time estimate only, plain .gcode, PRINT_START … FILAMENT=/PRINT_END, physical printer test OK) and the Voron cube printed from it, first-layer squish committed with Z_OFFSET_APPLY_ENDSTOP + SAVE_CONFIG after the print ended, cube kept for Ch 14's measurement.
  • ~/printer_data/config committed after every SAVE_CONFIG and copied off the Pi.
  • Part L, if fitted: H, w, d, G and O written down and the Step 13.47 decision kept (L, T, sheet stops, or NO-GO); only the files it wrote were printed, both inspection readings within 0.2 mm; the cold dry-run touched nothing but silicone; NOZZLE_CLEAN runs in PRINT_START before the final G28 Z.

Checkpoint 14 — Calibration and tuning

  • Bed and hotend PID tuned in Ch 13 and SAVE_CONFIG'd; both hold within ±0.5 °C at setpoint
  • A and B belts both at ~110 Hz over a measured 150 mm span, equal to each other after moving the gantry and returning
  • All four Z belts at ~140 Hz over a measured 150 mm span, even with each other — set at the Z idler tensioner bolts, belt clamps untouched
  • Closed-chamber soak of 1½–2 h done with panels and door on; QGL run 3–5× hot with shrinking corrections; machinist square clean at both front corners hot; the four Z joint M5×40 bolts tightened hot, idle timeout set back with SET_IDLE_TIMEOUT TIMEOUT=1800 after the last hot check
  • QUAD_GANTRY_LEVEL converges in ≤3 retries hot after the lock; PROBE_ACCURACY σ < 0.003 mm with no trend
  • rotation_distance verified on the Ch 13 value: 100 mm requested measures 99.5–100.5 mm; 22.6789511 nowhere in printer.cfg
  • PRINT_START (Ch 12 Step 12.36, with Step 14.9's purge line) homes, heats the bed, soaks, QGLs, re-homes Z, meshes, heats the nozzle and purges — tested standalone from the console with CHAMBER=0
  • Chamber reaches the 50–60 °C band with panels and door closed
  • Voron cube (printed in Ch 13) calipered; X, Y within ±0.15 mm and Z within ±0.10 mm of 30.00 mm
  • Both cubes (Prusa and Voron) measured into the comparison table
  • MEASURE_AXES_NOISE in the 1–100 range; [resonance_tester] probe_points: 175, 175, 20 confirmed live (Ch 12 Step 12.27)
  • [input_shaper] saved for X and Y; neither axis below 25 Hz
  • [printer] max_accel reduced from the stock 10000 to at or below the calibration's suggestion, with margin
  • max_z_velocity: 15 / max_z_accel: 350 restored if Z shaping was attempted
  • Pressure advance set per-filament for ASA and recorded
  • Extrusion multiplier set in the ASA filament profile and recorded
  • First-layer squish re-checked after the extrusion-multiplier change and saved with Z_OFFSET_APPLY_ENDSTOP
  • Every fastener the shaper run could have loosened re-checked
  • ~/printer_data/config committed (one commit per SAVE_CONFIG) and copied off the Pi
  • Tuning log filled in, with initials
  • Part H, if fitted: Step 14.25's calculator passed; exactly three jumpers, Fan0, Fan2 and Fan3, all at 24 V; the ASA soak still settles at 50–60 °C with the housing closed; a PLA print held chamber_temp at or under 37 °C, then purged and stopped; config committed
