Chapter 04 — A/B drive units and front idlers

Time: 3.5–5.0 h hands-on, first build · Sessions: 7 × ~30 min · Steps: 38

Start the chapter · Resume · Read the whole chapter on one page

Before — end of Ch 03: the bed

After — end of Ch 04: the four bench assemblies

What this chapter builds — orange is new, grey is what you already built. The two rear drive units, with their motors and pulleys, and the two front idler stacks - held apart in the positions they take on the gantry: A drive rear right, B drive rear left, an idler at each front corner. The machine is untouched this chapter; Checkpoint 04 leaves all four bagged and labelled, and they bolt to the Y extrusions in Chapter 05. Only the gaps between them grow on a 350 - the four assemblies are the same parts at either size.
