Step 10.75 — 5 V rail¶
Step 76 of 80 with a helper · Chapter 10 — Wiring and Checkpoint #1
(no image — see text)
Parts:
- multimeter on Ω · tool
Do: Measure at the Pi's 40-pin GPIO header, at the end nearest the microSD slot: pin 2 or 4, 5 V, to pin 6, GND, the outer row's first three pins.
Check
Finite, and not 0 Ω. Exactly two jumpers on the board, Fan2 and Fan3, both on the 24 V pins.
Helper Records the 5 V reading the adult calls out; the adult holds both probes.
What you're looking at
There is no 5 V power supply in this kit: the Leviathan makes 5 V itself and sends it to the Pi through the 5-pin power/UART port and the HAT adapter. This check confirms that rail is not shorted.
Caution
Rev D+ / LDO: LDO notes p.152, p.172 and p.190 are all SKIP — the manual's 5 V PSU does not exist in this kit and the Pi is never powered over its own USB-C. src
