Do:

  1. Shut the Pi down from Mainsail; wait for its green ACT LED to stop.
  2. Rocker off; unplug wall, then inlet; cord out of the room.
  3. Once the PSU LED is dark, meter DC V, +V to −V.

Check

Rocker unlit, PSU LED dark, no cord at the inlet. The meter reads 0 V and holds it for ten seconds, as at 10.73.

What you're looking at

Everything in Part A is done with the machine open, unplugged, and, in the build order, after Ch 12 Part 2, which left it powered with the bay open. So Part A opens with 11.67: shut down, unplug and prove it dead before any hand goes into the bay. Nothing in Part A needs power; the next power-on is Ch 13's 13.3, the first time the machine moves and heats. Work through it, then stop at the marker before 11.52. Three runs are off-machine: the touchscreen module (11.5–11.6) is built from Ch 10 Step 10.50, before its ribbon is latched; the Nevermore (11.26–11.41, after B09) and the Clicky-Clack sub-assembly (11.44–11.50, after B10) can be done any time after their batch has printed — for instance while Ch 12 flashes images.

Checkpoint 12 left the machine live with the bay open. Part A reaches into the bay, tips the printer on its side and plugs a fan lead into the Leviathan, so it starts dead. The PSU's green LED sits beside its voltage-adjust pot.

Caution

Who is in the room, 00a.2: one adult at the machine, bay open and live, until this Check passes. She stays out of the room until the meter holds 0 V and the cord is gone.

Caution

Stays dead through Part A. Nothing here needs power. If a step tempts you to check something live, stop: the next plug-in is Ch 13's hand-on-the-switch power-on at 13.3, with the bay closed. At every Pause, the cord stays out of the room. src
