Batch B00 — Calibration & jigs¶
One page per step
Read this chapter one step per page — big pictures, prev/next, and the same tick marks. This page is the whole chapter in one scroll.
One plate: the dimensional gate for the whole build, plus the rail-alignment jigs and the pulley jig. The
gate is in two parts — Gate A (the cube) releases B02, B07 and the cosmetics B08–B10 the day this plate
comes off; Gate B releases B01 and B03–B06 and runs in the same week, on a caliper across the printed
bore and seven M3×H5 inserts out of the KADRICK kit already on the bench (verify on bench). Gate B's
bearing press and its MGN12 rail row wait for the kit; nothing is bought to bring them forward.
Time: 4.0 h (1 plate) — PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 estimate, sliced from slicer/plates/B00-P1.3mf.
Sessions: ~15 min one-time slicer and filament setup, then Step B00.8's plate review (~25+20+35+20 min, four sessions, done with a helper) before B00-P1 starts, then 1 plate start (~5 min hands-on, then 4.0 h unattended) + ~15 min for Gate A + ~10 min sorting + ~15 min for Gate B, of which ~10 min (the bearing press and the rail row) waits for kit day.
Prerequisites: slicer set up per 00-slicer-setup.md — Step B00.0 below walks the one-time wizard, and runs first. Then the pre-B00 checks (index row 1) must pass — see Before B00: belt and hot-bed checks, right after Step B00.0; the hot check opens a project on the presets B00.0 installs. Step B00.8 — reviewing all 27 committed plates in PrusaSlicer together — runs before B00-P1 prints.

Hardware: none printed here. Gate B (Step B00.7) needs seven M3×H5 heat-set inserts (the coupon has seven pockets), which come from the KADRICK kit already on the bench (Ch 00 Step 00.9), plus a 625-2RS bearing and an MGN12 rail, which only the Voron kit supplies. So the insert row and the caliper row run months before the kit; the bearing press and the rail slide run on kit day, and the kit's own 153 inserts stay untouched.
Read first
- The two-part gate in 00-slicer-setup.md.
Gate A (cube X/Y, Z, first-layer-vs-mid delta, corner snap) is Step B00.5 and releases B02, B07 and
B08–B10. Gate B (
Heatset_Practicewith real inserts and a caliper acrossz_drive_retainer_a's 625-2RS pocket now; the bearing press andMGN12_rail_guideon a real rail on kit day) is Step B00.7 and releases B01 and B03–B06. - A failed gate means reprints, and a reprint is marked: the new plate id with an R after it and the changed extrusion multiplier, on a hidden face, per README § Bins. Gate A and Gate B are the two places this build expects to reprint, so it is where the habit starts.
- Most commonly reprinted here: the cube, until the profile is right.
z_drive_retainer_aon this plate is deliberate — it's your bearing-press-fit coupon and one of the two you need for B01, so nothing is wasted.- First layer: the Core One+ has no first-layer wizard. The loadcell sets Z before every print; you judge the result (Step B00.4) and nudge with Live Adjust Z only if you must.
Steps¶
Step B00.0 — One-time PrusaSlicer setup¶
Do:
- PrusaSlicer 2.9.6, Configuration → Configuration Wizard: Prusa FFF, Prusa CORE One & CORE One+.
- Tick the 0.4 HF nozzle even with plain 0.4 ticked; filament Prusament ASA; Finish.
- File → Open Project:
slicer/plates/B00-P1.3mf; accept any profile dialog.
Check
All three preset boxes read (modified): Prusa CORE One HF0.4 nozzle (modified), 0.20mm STRUCTURAL @COREONE 0.4 (modified), Prusament ASA @COREONE HF0.4 - Voron black.
Caution
The printer box's (modified) is the cold-probe start G-code, baked into all 22 projects. Leave it: never reset that box to its system value, and never pick the - coldstart preset first, because the project already carries the identical block.
Caution
The project did not load if any box lacks (modified), the filament box reads bare Prusament ASA @COREONE HF0.4, the estimate at Step B00.2 is wrong, or the printer box names another printer.

Before B00: belt and hot-bed checks¶
The Gen 2 kit (Prusa order 1787919456, on the shelf) goes in in two parts (ruling 2026-10-01). The heatbed expansion joints and the nozzle wiper are fitted now, before B00. The GT1.5 belts stay deferred to the INDX 8-tool conversion this winter (Prusa KB), so the whole 157.0 h run prints on the current Gen 1 GT2 belts. Then run the two checks — belt tuning was never formally closed, and the bed has only been proved flat at 60 °C, not at ASA temperature. They sit here, after Step B00.0, because the hot check opens a project on the presets B00.0 installs; they run before Step B00.8 and before any plate.
0. Fit the Gen 2 expansion joints and nozzle wiper (verify on bench)
- Prusa's Gen 2 upgrade guide: chapter 2 for the panels only, with the Nextruder left on. Skip chapter 3, Belts upgrade
- Chapter 4. Heatbed upgrade, all of it: expansion joints, heatbed spacer and aligner, nozzle wiper, panels back on
- Chapter 5: skip Belt tensioning and Changing the printer edition; run the Selftest
- Settings → Hardware → Expansion Joints Gen 2 on, → Nozzle Wiper on, GT1.5 Belts left off. Never pick Edition = CORE One+ Gen2: it also sets GT1.5 steps/mm, wrong for the GT2 belts still fitted
- The heatbed came off, so the closed ±0.1 mm bed is open again: repeat the six-point bed check and re-fit the Z-stop correction caps until it is back inside ±0.1 mm
1. Belt pluck check (verify on bench)
- Motors disabled, head parked front, X centred
- Pluck mid-belt with belt.connect.prusa3d.com or the Prusa app
- Upper belt ≈96 Hz (≤98 Hz), lower belt ≈92 Hz (≥92 Hz), ≤8 Hz apart
- Out of range: Control → Calibrations & Tests → Belt Tuning (fw ≥ 6.8.1), tensioner screws half a turn, both evenly and alternately — left = upper, right = lower
2. Hot first-layer check, at ASA bed temperature (verify on bench)
- Step B00.0 done; Galaxy Black ASA loaded as in Step B00.1; the sheet glued and Adv. Filtration set as in Step B00.3
- File → Open Project:
slicer/checks/hot-first-layer.3mf— five 30×30×0.2 mm squares, four corners plus centre, one layer, on B00-P1's presets (bed 110 °C, the vendored cold start G-code); the printer box reads(modified). Slice (~5 min print after the chamber heat-up) and print it - No "bed not aligned" / Z-alignment prompt during the print
- Every square calipers 0.17–0.23 mm
- Spread across all five squares ≤ 0.05 mm
- Print it again from
slicer/checks/hot-first-layer-heat-off.3mf, the same plate on the heat-then-off start G-code: nozzle to 170 °C, retract, heater off, wipe, heater off again, then the mesh. Caliper its five squares the same way - Write down which start passed with the smaller spread and no prompt. If heat-then-off wins, stop here: all 22 plates must be re-synced to it and Live Adjust Z re-tuned before B00
Both pass → Step B00.8, and B00 prints on GT2. Belt check fails → retension and re-pluck. Hot check fails on both starts → back to the bed check in item 0, then re-run it.
- Firmware ≥ 6.8.1 (printer menu → Info) — required either way
The check's project is not a plate of the run and sits outside every total. python3 slicer/hot_check.py
rebuilds both projects from slicer/voron-coreone-asa.ini and slices them to prove one layer, five squares,
a 110 °C bed and the heater off before every probe tap; --check only re-slices the committed files. The
22 plates carry the cold start until the comparison above says otherwise.
Plate review, B00-P1 and the gates¶
Step B00.8 — Review every plate in PrusaSlicer, together¶
Appended id, out of numeric order — same precedent as Step 10.80. It sits here, before any plate prints, because it is a once-through review of the whole run, not a step inside B00's own plate. Do it before B00-P1 starts.
Do:
- Open each of the 27 committed 3MFs, B00 through B11, in PrusaSlicer 2.9.6.
- Slice it, scrub the layer slider, and compare time and grams to the plate board.
- Tick it off, then open the next plate.
The 3MFs are slicer/plates/<id>.3mf — the 22 ASA plates of B00–B10, then B11's 5 PETG V0 bay-ducting
plates. The generated plate review checklist has one
box per plate, with the batch, material, sheet and the plate board's time and grams already filled in,
so nothing here gets hand-typed.
Check
All 27 plates ticked on the checklist. Flat face, no supports, correct spacing and accent colour. Any re-saved plate rebuilt and check_docs.py green.
Helper: Drives the layer slider on each plate and reads the time and grams aloud for the tally.
What to look at on each plate:
- A flat face sits on the sheet, and nothing overhangs the bed edge.
- No supports anywhere. The 2.9 print-stability warnings on drive frames, Stealthburner and Klicky parts are by design — see them and move on.
- Spacing looks even; nothing touching or crossing.
- The three accent plates (B02-P1–P3) are on the blue preset, everything else on black.
- B11's five plates are on the PETG V0 preset and the textured sheet, not the smooth one.
- B11-P4 and B11-P5 wait on kit-day measurements (Leviathan-to-PSU and SSR-to-WAGO gaps). Review them now for arrangement and settings anyway; reprint only if kit day changes a duct length.
If an arrangement needs changing:
- In PrusaSlicer, open the Arrange popup: 6 mm spacing, rotations on, Center, Accurate, then Arrange Current Bed. Save the 3MF. src
- Rebuild only the plates you touched:
python3 slicer/build_plates.py --from-3mf <plate id> [<plate id> ...]— name every re-saved plate. With no ids it re-slices all 27: safe, but slow. Never drop--from-3mf: that re-packs the plates and loses this arrangement. - Run
python3 slicer/check_docs.py. If grams moved, shift the spool ledger in print/README by hand.

Step B00.1 — Filament prep¶
Do:
- Mount a fresh or recently-dried spool of Prusament ASA Galaxy Black, ≤2 weeks open.
- On the printer, Load Filament → ASA; it asks for a material type only, and the HF profile lives in the slicer.
Check
Purge is clean black, no PLA/PETG streaking from a prior print.
Good stopping point · ~10 min since the last one
ASA loaded and purged clean, B00-P1 still open in PrusaSlicer. Nothing printing.

Step B00.2 — Load plate B00-P1¶
Sorting diagram, drawn from the committed project: every part numbered and filled in the colour of its bin, bin id on the part; the legend reads # · STL · bin (chapter · steps). Sort at Step B00.6.
Do:
- File → Open Project:
slicer/plates/B00-P1.3mf. Open it, never rebuild it. - Confirm 6 files, 8 objects on the bed and no brim.
- Do not change which face a part sits on; rotating about Z is fine.
Parts: 6 files, 8 objects — 4.0 h, 52 g (PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 estimate); Voron_Design_Cube_v7; Heatset_Practice; MGN12_rail_guide_x2 ×2; MGN9_rail_guide_x2 ×2; pulley_jig; z_drive_retainer_a_x2 ×1.
Check
The slicer reads 3 h 58 m / 51.7 g, and the filament preset shows shrinkage compensation XY and Z at 0 %.
Source: print plan §3 — the batches · 00-slicer-setup § Committed projects · 00-slicer-setup § Orientation & brim · Voron materials — shrinkage 100 %
Step B00.3 — Pre-print checks¶
Do:
- Fit the print sheet, cleaned since the last print, with a thin glue-stick film over the printed area.
- Let the chamber reach 40 °C; never override the profile's gate.
- Set Settings → Chamber Filtration → Adv. Filtration.
Check
Chamber temp reads ≥40 °C on the display before the nozzle purges, and Chamber Filtration reads Adv. Filtration.
Caution
ASA off-gasses styrene. Chamber Filtration on Adv. Filtration, also under Tune mid-print: on None the AFS blower never runs and the plate vents unfiltered. Door shut for the whole print, room ventilated between plates. The bed (110 °C) and nozzle (265 °C) stay hot for ~20 min after the print ends — a helper handles cooled parts, not the printer.
Tip
on the smooth or powder-coated PEI sheet Prusa prints ASA over a glue-stick layer so the part cannot pull the coating off; never acetone on the powder-coated sheet. help.prusa3d.com/article/asa_1809

Step B00.4 — Print¶
Do:
- Slice, then Export G-code to USB or Send to printer.
- Start it, watch the first layer for 2–3 minutes.
- Gappy beads: long-press the knob, nudge Live Adjust Z, then find the cause before the next plate.
Check
First layer smooth, no gaps between beads, no ridging, and either no Live Adjust Z nudge or its cause written in the log.
Tip
expect 15–25 minutes of chamber heating before the purge (verify on bench), not in the 4.0 h. Paused or stopped: When the printer stops.

Step B00.5 — Inspect: Gate A (the cube, no kit needed)¶
Do:
- Once cool, remove the plate and run Gate A with calipers at mid-height.
- Cube X/Y 30.00 mm ±0.15 mm, Z 30.00 mm ±0.10 mm, first-layer-vs-mid-height X delta ≤0.15 mm, corner snap no delamination.
- Log all four numbers.
Check
All four pass; any failure means adjusting extrusion multiplier, never negative XY compensation, then reprinting this plate before B02 or B07.
Helper: Reads each caliper number back aloud and types it into the Gate A calculator.
Gate A — the 30 mm cube — the calculator needs JavaScript; the limits are in the table on this page.
The 30 mm cube is a ruler for the printer. X and Y say whether walls come out the size the CAD drew, which every bearing bore in the machine depends on; Z says whether the first layer is squished right; the corner snap says whether the layers weld. Every later plate inherits these four numbers.
Tip
corner snap means grip a corner in pliers and bend it off. A pass tears across the layers; a peel along one layer line is a fail.
Good stopping point · ~15 min since the last one
Gate A is measured and written down; B02 and B07 are released. The Gate B coupons (Heatset_Practice, one MGN12_rail_guide, z_drive_retainer_a) are not tested yet — do not bin them with the jigs.
Source: print plan §5.2 — checkpoint after each batch · 00-slicer-setup § Gate A · Ellis' Print Tuning Guide · Voron materials — shrinkage 100 %
Step B00.6 — Sort into bins¶
Do:
- Sort every part except the three Gate B coupons into its bin off the diagram above.
- Mark plate id and date on a hidden face.
- Bag the three Gate B coupons at the front of 00-jigs:
GATE B — bore and inserts now, rail on kit day.
B00-P1 — bin labels print from the bin-labels sheet.
| bin | parts off this plate |
|---|---|

02-Z0 — Z0 corner (front-left, _a hand) |
z_drive_retainer_a, after Step B00.7 |
Check
Bins 00-jigs and 02-Z0 are labelled, every other part is in 00-jigs, and the Gate B bag is closed.
Tip
after Gate B the retainer moves to 02-Z0; the cube stays as the reference coupon.
Good stopping point · ~10 min since the last one

Step B00.7 — Gate B, bore and inserts now, rail on kit day¶
Do:
- Open the GATE B bag and run Gate B.
- Caliper the
z_drive_retainer_a625-2RS pocket, then set seven KADRICK inserts. - Kit day: thumb a real 625-2RS into that pocket, then slide the
MGN12_rail_guideonto the real MGN12 rail.
Check
The pocket calipers 16.30 mm ±0.15 and all seven inserts sit flush. Bearing and rail rows sign off on kit day.

MGN12_rail_guide |
kit day, out of carton 1 | seats with light finger pressure |
Gate B — bore, inserts, and the kit-day rows — the calculator needs JavaScript; the limits are in the table on this page.
Caution
A pocket outside 16.30 mm ±0.15 is the profile, not the part. Confirm shrinkage compensation is 0 %, then move extrusion multiplier 1 %, reprint the retainer and the cube, re-pass Gate A, and only then start B01. A bulging boss is technique, so practise rather than re-slice. The six MGN9 rails stay sealed until rail prep.
A 625-2RS is the plain 16 mm bearing in every Z drive, and this pocket is the seat it presses into. The caliper now is standing in for that press: if the pocket is wrong, 22 h of Z-drive bodies would print wrong with it. Flush, un-bulged inserts mean the iron is right before any real part sees one. The adult sets the inserts; the helper never handles the iron.
Good stopping point · ~15 min since the last one
Gate B's caliper and insert rows are measured and written down; B01 and B03–B06 are released. Put the retainer in bin 02-Z0 and keep the rail guide in 00-jigs for the kit-day rows.

Common mistakes¶
- Skipping the chamber-preheat gate — ASA's first layer on a cold bed looks fine and then lifts at hour 2.
- Reaching for negative XY compensation to fix an oversized cube — wrecks bearing fits everywhere else; use extrusion multiplier instead.
- Hunting the printer's menus for a first-layer calibration wizard — the Core One+ has none; the loadcell does it, and Live Adjust Z is a per-print nudge that is not saved.
- Rushing the
Heatset_Practicecoupon — technique (iron temp/speed) matters more than any slicer setting here. - Starting B01 on Gate A alone "because the cube is fine" — the bore is the gate that protects 22.8 h of Z-drive bodies.
- Resetting the printer preset to its system value to clear the "(modified)" mark — that throws the cold-probe start G-code away and puts a hot nozzle back on the mesh.
Next¶
Printing: Gate B (Step B00.7) on the caliper and the KADRICK inserts, then B01 — Z drive assemblies and on through B02 → B10 in numeric order, all before the kit. Assembly: Ch 00 needs this plate's rail guides on kit day; its Heatset_Practice is spent at Gate B, which is Ch 00's insert practice (Steps 00.14–00.15). Ch 01 Frame needs no printed part.
