Parts:
- GT2 20T 9 mm idler ×4 · Motion box
- M5×30 BHCS ×4 · Fasteners, Tools & Misc box
- the four idler cages · already on the bench
Do: Drive an M5×30 BHCS through each slider's fork with a 20T 9 mm idler between the arms. It cuts its own thread in the Ø5 holes, so keep it square. Build all four, two a brackets and two b.
Check
Idler spins freely on the axle with no axial slop, and its tooth band sits centred in the fork. Four idlers built.
What you're looking at
Manual p.48: a 20T idler dropped into the fork of the blue tensioner on an M5×30 screw used as its axle. An idler is a pulley that redirects a belt without driving it. See the glossary. It has to spin freely and stay in plane.
Good stopping point · ~20 min since the last one
four idler cages assembled with their captive M3 nuts and 20T idlers on M5×30 axles, tensioner screws left deliberately short of tight. Nothing is mounted to the frame yet.
