Step 03.3 — Strip the protective film¶

Do: Peel the blue/clear protective film off the top face and bin it. Work from one corner; do not use a metal tool on the ground surface.
Check
No film left in the counterbores or under the edges. The ground surface is bare metal, matte, with visible Blanchard swirl.
What you're looking at
Manual p.54: the ground top face under its protective film. The face is Blanchard-ground, the swirl pattern you will see. The film has to come off before the magnet; adhesive will not bond through it.
Caution
Rev D+ / LDO: the manual never mentions the film — LDO adds this. Remove it now; the magnet will not bond through it. src
