Parts:
- the drive shaft from the IDGA set · already on the bench
- the MR85 in the motor plate · already on the bench
- MR85 bearing ×1 · set out now, fitted later
- sandpaper, fine · consumable
Do: The bearings must slip on and off the shaft by hand so the gear can self-centre. Pressing a bearing onto the shaft destroys it. If either is tight, lightly sand the shaft: a few passes, then re-test.
Check
Each bearing slides on and off with fingertip force and no rocking.
Helper Slides each bearing on and off the shaft and says whether it catches anywhere.
What you're looking at
The drive shaft carries the filament drive gear and the 50 T gear the motor's pinion turns. The bearings must be a slide fit on it, not a press fit, so the gear train can find its own centre.
