Step 08.53 — Land the ground wire's motor end on the extruder motor¶
Step 53 of 65 · Chapter 08 — Toolhead: Stealthburner, Clockwork 2, Revo HF, Nitehawk-SB V2
Parts:
- grounding cable, toolboard to extruder motor ×1 · the LDO kit, no BOM row
- M3 screw, motor end of the grounding cable ×1 · the LDO kit, no BOM row
Do:
- Land the motor-end ring lug on the short supplied screw, length
(verify on bench), in a free face hole of the NEMA14. - LDO's photo uses the lower one, nearest the chain anchor; bend the lug clear of it. Snug only.
Check
Continuity from the toolboard GND pad to the motor can; both lugs are under a screw head; the wire cannot reach any moving part.
What you're looking at
One short ring-lugged wire, and the reason it exists is static. LDO's ESD scheme makes one continuous path: extruder motor body, toolboard ground, umbilical, USB adapter, frame, earth. Its board end went under a toolboard screw at 08.43. src
Boundary: this step is the source of record for the ESD grounding scheme. Ch 10 Step 10.58 fits the frame-side leg and re-checks the path; if LDO changes the procedure, correct it here first and make Ch 10 point back.
Caution
Rev D+ / LDO: use the supplied grounding cable — LDO warns that larger ring-lug connectors can short
the PCB. If your kit did not include the grounding cables, stop and ask in #ldo_motors before
improvising a ground connection; this scheme was undocumented prose until LDO's board doc was updated
2026-07-10 (survey §4.1 ⑤).
Good stopping point · ~25 min since the last one
every toolboard-side connector is made, the LDO cable cover is closed on its captive screw, and the ground wire runs from the toolboard to the motor body. Nothing is powered and nothing is on the carriage. Do not plug the umbilical's far end into anything and do not power the printer to "just check" — Checkpoint 08 and Ch 13 do that, in that order.
