Step 10.17 — De-energise and set up

Step 17 of 80 · Chapter 10 — Wiring and Checkpoint #1

(no image — see text)

Gather for this segment — steps 10.17–10.23 (~25 min)

Other box

  • C13 power cord ×1

Tools and consumables

  • multimeter

Parts:

  • multimeter · tool

Do: Confirm the C13 power cord is not plugged into the inlet and is not in the room. Set the meter to continuity/beeper and test it by shorting the probes.

Check

The meter beeps on a dead short. No cord anywhere near the machine.

What you're looking at

Nothing to look at on the machine; this step is about the meter and the absent cord. Continuity mode makes the meter beep whenever a conductive path joins its two probes, and that beep is the instrument for every measurement in this section.

LDO

"Incorrect wiring of AC/mains can be dangerous — therefore, always double check your work, and then triple check it once more." Do all seven steps, 10.17 to 10.23, in order. Do not skip ahead to the 24 V section.

Caution

Who is in the room, 00a.2: one adult at the machine for 10.17 to 10.23. She is out of the room until 10.24; at 10.23 nobody but the person with a hand on the switch is within reach of the machine.
