Step 11.29 — Cut the connector off the long-wire fan

Step 30 of 67 · Chapter 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration

Parts:

  • the long-lead Nevermore 5015 fan · set out now, fitted later
  • side cutters · tool

Do: Cut the JST connector off the longer-leaded fan. Keep the connector pigtail; it gets soldered back onto the bridge PCB at 11.33.

Check

Connector cut free and set aside somewhere you will not lose it; both fan leads still long enough to route through the plenum.

What you're looking at

The fan with the longer lead has its plug cut off so both fans can be soldered to the bridge PCB, a small board that parallels them onto one lead. The cut-off pigtail is the only connector that mates with the FILTER FAN extension.

Good stopping point · ~15 min since the last one

Nevermore supports broken off, both 5015 enclosures trimmed, inserts melted, and the long-wire fan's connector cut off. Nothing is glued and nothing is soldered to the bridge PCB yet.
