Ch 121 / 37

Step 12.1 — Decide where you are doing the Pi half

Step 1 of 37 · Chapter 12 — Software: Pi OS image, Klipper/Moonraker/Mainsail, firmware, printer.cfg

gather Gather for this segment — steps 12.1–12.6 (~25 min)

Tools and consumables

  • the kit's 32 GB microSD card

Parts: none.

Do:

  1. Bay not yet wired: take the Pi off its mount and feed it from a USB-C 5 V/3 A supply.
  2. Checkpoint #1 passed: leave the Pi on the board and power the bay.
  3. Plug in Ethernet.

check Check

You can identify the Pi's SD slot and its Ethernet port, and you have a way to power it that is not the printer's mains.

What you're looking at

The photo is a Raspberry Pi 4B, the printer's host: it runs the Klipper motion planner, the web interface and the touchscreen. Ethernet and USB sit at one end; the microSD slot is underneath, at the other.

Caution

Rev D+ / LDO: the Leviathan supplies the Pi from its own dedicated Pi rail, so on the assembled machine "power the Pi" means "switch on the printer". That is why this chapter is gated on Checkpoint #1 (survey §4.4 #8). src
