Ch 1223 / 37

Step 12.23 — Paste the two serial paths

Step 23 of 37 · Chapter 12 — Software: Pi OS image, Klipper/Moonraker/Mainsail, firmware, printer.cfg

(no image — see text)

Parts: none.

Do: Replace both {REPLACE WITH YOUR SERIAL} placeholders. [mcu] is the mainboard; [mcu nhk] is the toolboard.

[mcu]
## Obtain definition by "ls -l /dev/serial/by-id/" then unplug to verify
##--------------------------------------------------------------------
serial: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Klipper_stm32f446xx_XXXXXXXXXXXX-if00 # CHANGED — Leviathan; stm32h743xx if V1.3
restart_method: command
##--------------------------------------------------------------------

[mcu nhk]
## Obtain definition by "ls -l /dev/serial/by-id/" then unplug to verify
##--------------------------------------------------------------------
serial: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Klipper_stm32g0b1xx_XXXXXXXXXXXX-if00 # CHANGED — Nitehawk-SB V2, NOT rp2040
restart_method: command
##--------------------------------------------------------------------

check Check

the two paths are different from each other, both start /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Klipper_, and both end -if00.

What you're looking at

[mcu] is the mainboard and [mcu nhk] is the toolboard; every pin starting nhk: is resolved against the second one. Klipper checks each pin name against the board it is sent to, so swapping the paths stops Klipper with a pin-name error rather than driving the wrong pins.

Caution

Rev D+ / LDO: swapping these two is the most common Rev D+ mistake: the guide primes you to look for rp2040, and there isn't one. [mcu nhk] gets the stm32g0b1xx path. At Step 12.37: Pin 'PG0' is not a valid pin name on mcu 'mcu' means the two serial paths are swapped (the toolboard has no port G); Pin 'gpio23' is not a valid pin name on mcu 'nhk' means you loaded leviathan-printer-rev-d.cfg, not the -sbv2 file. src · src

pause Good stopping point · ~15 min since the last one

printer.cfg is the -sbv2 file with the Mainsail include and both real serial paths pasted in. Klipper connects to both MCUs. Do not stop with only one serial path filled in; Klipper will not start.
