Step 11.11 — Build the electronics-bay fan modules¶
Step 12 of 67 with a helper · Chapter 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration
Parts:
- the two bay fans, inserts fitted · already on the bench
- the two grill retainers, inserts fitted · already on the bench
-
side_fan_support×2 · bin 11-skirts -
[a]_fan_grill_a×2 · bin 11-fans -
[a]_fan_grill_b×2 · bin 11-fans - M3×8 SHCS ×16 · Fasteners, Tools & Misc box
Do:
- Right support: grill outside each opening, fan behind, four M3×8 SHCS through the grill into the fan's inserts.
- Both arrows into the bay; leads uncut.
- Left support: the same, a retainer for each fan.
Check
Two fans in the right-hand support, spinning freely, arrows into the bay. Left support: grills on retainers. Screws snug, fan frames not crushed.
Helper Reads each fan's airflow arrow aloud and checks both point into the bay.
What you're looking at
Each side_fan_support has two fan openings. Both fans go in the right-hand support, the PSU side seen from the front. On the left, the two grill retainers stand in for fans. Grills a and b are mirrored.
Caution
Rev D+ / LDO: the kit contains two 60×20 fans, two retainers, four grills and one 3×2 splicer PCB. p.228 is the fan support, p.225 the retainer support. LDO's Rev D bay photos S1, S4, S6 put the fans beside the PSU. No airflow direction is given; both extracting also works if matched. src · src
Tip
[a]_fan_grill_open_optional_x2 is an alternate grill with more open area and less filtering, if the bay runs warm. src
