Step 11.33 — Solder the fans to the bridge PCB

Step 34 of 67 · Chapter 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration

Parts:

  • Nevermore bridge PCB ×1 · Belts, Chains & Fans box
  • the saved connector pigtail · already on the bench
  • soldering iron and solder · tool
  • multimeter · tool

Do:

  1. Solder both fans' wires and the pigtail to the bridge PCB, red to the top pads, black to the bottom.
  2. Arrange the wires as the guide's photo shows.
  3. Meter for a short between positive and negative.

Check

Continuity reads open between + and −; all six joints shiny and mechanically sound; PCB sits in its compartment without pressing on a wire.

What you're looking at

The bridge PCB is a small board that joins both fans and the saved pigtail into one 24 V pair, red to the top pads, black to the bottom. A solder bridge here puts a dead short across the mainboard's 24 V fan output.

Caution

A bad solder here shorts a 24 V rail. LDO: "A bad solder will result in permanently damaging the controller board." Do the meter check before anything gets plugged in. src

Good stopping point · ~20 min since the last one

both fans seated in the plenum, leads trimmed to length and soldered to the bridge PCB, and the pair metered for a short. The plenum is open and unglued.
