Step 11.46 — Build the door hinges: dowel into the solid halves

Step 47 of 67 · Chapter 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration

(no image — see mod README § Assembly)

Parts:

  • Hinge-L-solid ×2 · bin 11-door
  • M5×45 dowel pin ×2 · Clicky-Clack door kit
  • small hammer · tool

Do: Tap an M5×45 dowel into each solid hinge half; it is meant to be a very tight fit. Stop when about 20 mm protrudes. Do not drive it flush.

check Check

Both pins about 20 mm proud, both perpendicular to the hinge face, neither part split.

What you're looking at

Each door hinge is two printed halves: a solid half carrying a steel dowel pin, and a sleeve half that drops onto it. Leaving 20 mm of pin proud is what lets the whole door lift straight off its hinges.

tip Tip

an M3×20 screw's shoulder is a quick 20 mm gauge.
