Step 11.47 — Bush the sleeve halves¶
Step 48 of 67 · Chapter 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration
(no image — see mod README § Assembly)
Parts:
-
Hinge-L-sleeve×2 · bin 11-door - M5×7×8 split bushing ×4 · Clicky-Clack door kit
- small hammer · tool
Do: Slide two bushings over one of the dowels, offer the empty sleeve part over them, and tap the sleeve down until the bushings sit fully inside with nothing protruding. Repeat for the second sleeve.
Check
Both sleeves bushed with nothing standing proud; a sleeve half drops onto a solid half's dowel and rotates freely with no slop and no bind.
What you're looking at
A split bushing is a rolled metal sleeve that becomes the actual bearing surface between pin and printed part, so the hinge does not wear its way loose. Two go into each sleeve half, fully below the surface.
Tip
a soldering iron works instead of a hammer, melting the bushings in like a heat-set.
Good stopping point · ~20 min since the last one
the door frame is squared and blind-jointed, the rubber retainer strip is in, and both hinges are dowelled and bushed. The acrylic is not yet trapped and nothing is glued.
