Do: Peel the film from both faces of both panels. Run 3 mm foam tape around the perimeter of each inner face, corners butted.
Check
3 mm tape on both panels, all four edges, corners butted. Never substitute the 1 mm tape here.
Helper Cleans both side panels with the cloth, then peels the tape backing ahead.
What you're looking at
The side panels are clear polycarbonate, tougher than acrylic and the material the gantry gets closest to. Their 3 mm foam is a functional standoff that holds the panel far enough out for the gantry to clear it.
Tip
the manual's reason: "The 3mm foam tape is used on the side panels to prevent the gantry from rubbing on the panels."
