Step 11.64 — Fit the handle and align the door

Step 65 of 67 with a helper · Chapter 11 — Skirts, panels, Clicky-Clack door, filtration

Parts:

  • the handle assembly · already on the bench
  • M3×20 SHCS ×4 · Clicky-Clack door kit
  • M3 roll-in T-nut ×4 · Clicky-Clack door kit
  • a paper shim · consumable

Do:

  1. Attach both handle hinges loosely to the door's right-hand edge.
  2. Shim the magnets apart with paper, then float the handle over the latch until they align.
  3. Lock the latch, tighten the handle screws, pull the shim.

check Check

The door closes with a click, the latch drawing it in against the 3 mm foam, the handle swinging freely, all four sides sealed.

helperHelper Holds the paper shim between the magnets while you slide the handle into line.

What you're looking at

Alignment happens by moving the latch and the handle hinges. The paper shim keeps the handle and handle-hinge magnets from snapping together while you position them. A correctly aligned door is drawn onto its foam by the magnets, not merely resting against it.

tip Tip

if the latch will not catch cleanly, the problem is usually hinge alignment, not latch position. Re-align at 11.62 rather than moving the latch. src

door hinges hung, latch fitted, handle on, and the door swings and closes on its magnets. Do not stop with the door hanging on one hinge; it will twist the frame and the acrylic.
