Ch 124 / 37

Step 12.4 — First boot

Step 4 of 37 · Chapter 12 — Software: Pi OS image, Klipper/Moonraker/Mainsail, firmware, printer.cfg

(no image — see text)

Parts: none.

Do: Put the card in the Pi, connect Ethernet, power on and leave it alone. First boot expands the filesystem, up to five minutes. Watch the green activity LED: occasional flickers mean it is done.

check Check

ping voron.local answers, with your own hostname. If the .local name does not resolve, find the Pi's IP in your router's DHCP table.

check Check

Give the Pi a DHCP reservation in your router now, before you paste its address into anything.

What you're looking at

On its first boot the image expands itself to fill the card, which is why this takes minutes rather than seconds. The DHCP reservation pins the Pi's address in your router so it cannot move later and break every link you have written down.
