Step 12.7 — Record the Klipper version you are building against¶
Step 7 of 37 with a helper · Chapter 12 — Software: Pi OS image, Klipper/Moonraker/Mainsail, firmware, printer.cfg
(no image — see text)
Parts: none.
Do: In SSH:
cd ~/klipper && git describe --tags --always --dirty
Check
You have one version string, and ls ~/printer_data/config/ shows mainsail.cfg and moonraker.conf but no printer.cfg.
Helper Copies the version string into the build notes and reads it back, character by character.
What you're looking at
Klipper is two halves that must match: a host process on the Pi and a small firmware on each microcontroller. git describe prints the exact commit the host half is at, and both firmware builds must come from this working copy.
Write the string down (or paste it into your build notes). Both MCUs must be flashed from this exact working copy.
Why: if the host Klipper and an MCU's firmware were built from different commits, Klipper aborts at connect with a Command format mismatch error naming the offending MCU. src
