Step 13.16 — Correct any wrong motor or wrong direction¶
Step 16 of 54 · Chapter 13 — Initial startup
(no image — see text)
Parts: none.
Do: Fix what Steps 13.13–13.15 found, one cause at a time, from the table.
Check
All seven motors answer the right command and move cleanly; the four Z motors turn the right way. Do not proceed with a known-bad axis.
What you're looking at
Four faults look almost identical from the console, each with its own fix: nothing at all is power or pins, a buzz without travel is coil wiring, a wrong motor is a wrong port, a wrong direction is one character in the config.
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Nothing moved | Check enable_pin and step_pin, and that the driver has power |
| Buzzed but did not travel 1 mm cleanly | Coil pairs transposed in the connector. Power down, then re-pin it so each coil is a pair |
| The wrong motor answered | Motors in the wrong ports. Power the machine down before moving any stepper connector |
| It moved the wrong way | Invert that stepper's dir_pin: add a ! so dir_pin: PD3 becomes dir_pin: !PD3, or remove an existing !. RESTART and re-run the buzz |
Good stopping point · ~20 min since the last one
every motor buzzed, identified and turning the right way, and any swap has been fixed at the connector, not in the config. The machine still has not homed.
