Ch 13 › Part E — Homing and machine coordinates24 / 54

Step 13.24 — Bed locating: line up the Z endstop and set the bed gap

Step 24 of 54 · Chapter 13 — Initial startup

Parts: none.

Do:

  1. M112 ready, G28 X Y, then jog the toolhead left along the rear until the nozzle lines up with the probe.
  2. Loosen the probe's two M3×25 SHCS, slide it until the shaft is directly under the nozzle, re-tighten.

check Check

The nozzle tip is over the middle of the probe shaft, with a 2–3 mm gap to the plate's back edge across its travel.

What you're looking at

The photo is LDO's bench shot of the probe body, not how it sits on the extrusion. Two things have to line up: the shaft directly under the nozzle, and 2–3 mm of clearance between that shaft and the back edge of the build plate.

Caution

Each G28 X Y lifts the gantry another 10 mm until Z is homed at Step 13.27. If it is getting near the top, M84 with a hand under the gantry (it sinks when the Z motors release), lower it by hand, and re-home.

tip Tip

if the bed fouls the shaft, loosen the bed and shift it forward. This is the last chance to do it easily.
