Step 13.31 — Heat soak: bed 100 °C, hotend 150 °C¶
Step 31 of 54 · Chapter 13 — Initial startup
(no image — see text)
Parts: none.
Do:
- Send
SET_IDLE_TIMEOUT TIMEOUT=7200, thenG28. - Set the bed to 100 °C and the hotend to 150 °C.
- Wait 10–20 minutes from cold.
Check
The bed holds 100 °C without hunting and the hotend 150 °C; chamber_temp rises only a few degrees with the machine open.
What you're looking at
A heat soak is waiting for the frame to come up to temperature, not the bed. Aluminium extrusions grow as they warm, which moves the gantry relative to the bed, so anything measured cold was measured on a different machine.
Caution
The LDO config ships [idle_timeout] timeout: 1800, and Klipper's idle timeout runs TURN_OFF_HEATERS then M84 after 30 minutes without a move, which is exactly what a static soak looks like. RESTART, FIRMWARE_RESTART and every SAVE_CONFIG put it back to 1800.
Tip
150 °C is below min_extrude_temp: 170 on purpose: hot enough to expand the toolhead, cold enough that nothing oozes. The soak gate at Step 13.32 is probe repeatability, not a chamber number.
Good stopping point · ~20 min since the last one
cold PROBE_ACCURACY is in range, both PID tunes are saved, and the machine is holding its heat soak at bed 100 °C / hotend 150 °C. The soak is a genuine wait state: leave it soaking, but do not leave the room with the heaters on.
