Step 14.21 — Re-check first-layer squish, because the multiplier moved¶
Step 21 of 36 · Chapter 14 — Calibration and tuning
(no image — see text)
Parts: none.
Do: Print one more cube, or any wide flat part, and repeat the live-Z procedure from Ch 13 Step 13.42. Save with Z_OFFSET_APPLY_ENDSTOP then SAVE_CONFIG.
Check
Bottom surface is smooth, lines still individually visible, no gaps.
What you're looking at
Changing extrusion multiplier changes how much plastic the first layer puts down, so the squish set in Ch 13 is now slightly off. Same live-Z procedure, same commit command; this loop back is expected, not a sign that something was done wrong.
First layer, re-checked after the multiplier moved — the calculator needs JavaScript; the limits are in the table on this page.
Tip
this closes the essentials loop. Ellis' order is extruder, surface prep, first layer, pressure advance, extrusion multiplier; the multiplier feeding back into first layer is expected.
Good stopping point · ~10 min since the last one
first-layer squish re-set after the extrusion-multiplier change and saved with Z_OFFSET_APPLY_ENDSTOP + SAVE_CONFIG. The essentials loop is closed.
