Step 14.3 — Verify thermal stability, then re-QGL¶
Step 3 of 36 · Chapter 14 — Calibration and tuning

Parts: none.
Do:
SET_IDLE_TIMEOUT TIMEOUT=7200, then bed to 100 °C and hotend to 150 °C, door open.- Sit 10–20 minutes from cold, watching the temperature graph.
G32, thenPROBE_ACCURACYat bed centre. Heaters off,SET_IDLE_TIMEOUT TIMEOUT=1800.
Check
Both heaters hold within ±0.5 °C of setpoint with no slow oscillation, and PROBE_ACCURACY reports σ < 0.003 mm with no trend.
What you're looking at
Thermal stability here means the frame, not just the heaters. PROBE_ACCURACY is the instrument: ten probes at one spot, and a series that drifts steadily downward is aluminium still expanding, not a fault in the probe.
Caution
The LDO config's 1800 s idle timeout switches the heaters and the Z motors off 30 minutes after the last move, which is exactly what a static soak looks like.
Caution
A drifting probe series, each probe lower than the last, means the frame is still expanding: wait longer. If σ stays high after the soak, suspect uneven Z belts.
Tip
the door stays open so this does not become the long soak; the closed-chamber soak that locks the geometry in is Step 14.6.
Good stopping point · ~25 min since the last one
config pre-flighted against the -sbv2 file, both heaters confirmed PID-tuned and holding, and the machine re-QGL'd hot with σ in range. Heaters can go off. Nothing mechanical has been touched.
